MileageCount, the mileage capture and fleet management system, now provides best practice in vehicle emission reporting to assist compliance with the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS).

MileageCount has been assessed by Carbon Clear, one of the world’s leading providers of carbon advisory services. Carbon Clear has validated MileageCount against the main requirements of ISO14064-3:2006 (Specification with guidance for the validation and verification of greenhouse gas assertions).

MileageCount users can see full details of the methodology used to corroborate the calculations in Carbon Clear’s validation statement, accessible here.

ESOS, the UK implementation of Article 8 of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive, requires large organisations to assess their energy usage and identify savings. The reporting requirements include use of fuel for transport, which must be converted to a comparable unit of energy. MileageCount’s validation confirms its effective, accurate conversion of fuel use in litres or mileage to carbon and then to kWh.

Jez Strong, MileageCount commercial manager, said, “We use figures sourced from BEIS (formerly known as the DEFRA / DECC Conversion Factors) to ensure reporting consistency across claims. It gives users peace of mind from knowing that their reporting is conducted on a level playing field. As well as making ESOS reporting simple, MileageCount helps to identify the scope for reduced fuel usage, which means lower energy costs.”

Jez Strong said, “We will work with Carbon Clear to review MileageCount’s compliance at least annually, to ensure continuing support for fleets. This is not just for those fleets required to report on emissions from transport fuel for ESOS compliance. It is also invaluable for fleets whose voluntary emissions tracking is entirely internal and voluntary, as part of their own sustainability programmes.”
